It is with profound sadness that the World Cultural Council (WCC) announces the passing of our esteemed President, Prof. Sir Fraser Stoddart, a visionary scientist, beloved mentor, and tireless advocate for education and innovation. Prof. Stoddart served as President of the WCC from 2022 until his untimely passing, leading our organization with the same passion, wisdom, and dedication that defined his illustrious career.<\/p>

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1942, Prof. Stoddart\u2019s life and work embodied a relentless pursuit of knowledge and progress. As a pioneering chemist, he introduced the concept of mechanically interlocked molecules, revolutionizing the fields of nanoscience and molecular technology. His work paved the way for transformative innovations, including molecular machines, nanovalves, and groundbreaking approaches to targeted drug delivery systems.<\/p>

Prof. Stoddart\u2019s commitment to advancing science extended far beyond his research. He inspired generations of scientists through his mentorship, fostering a spirit of curiosity and excellence in all who worked with him. His enthusiasm for education was matched by his compassion, warmth, and sharp sense of humor, which endeared him to colleagues and students alike.<\/p>

In recognition of his extraordinary contributions to science, Prof. Stoddart was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2006 and awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2016, alongside Prof. Ben Feringa and Prof. Jean-Pierre Sauvage. He was also the recipient of the 2007 Albert Einstein World Award of Science. As President of the WCC, he brought the same brilliance and humanity to our mission, championing science, education, and the cultural enrichment of society.<\/p>

Beyond his scientific contributions, Prof. Stoddart was deeply admired for his boundless energy, infectious enthusiasm, and his genuine care for the people he worked with. As a mentor, he was generous with his time and wisdom, always encouraging others to strive for excellence. His love for science was matched by his passion for art, cooking, and his dedication to family, particularly his late wife, Norma Scholan, who was a key part of his research group and life.<\/p>

The WCC is profoundly grateful for the legacy he leaves behind, both as a scientific luminary and as our devoted President. His visionary leadership was instrumental in advancing our mission, and his inspiring example will continue to guide us in the years to come.<\/p>

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. We honor his remarkable life, his boundless generosity, and his enduring contributions to science and humanity.<\/p>
