The José Vasconcelos World Award of Education
has been established as an acknowledgement to those who have the all important labour of teaching the underlying basis of our present civilization. The prize is awarded every other year.

Prof. Lerman was selected as the recipient of this Award in recognition of her creative and innovative work in the Science Education field. Prof. Joseph O´Halloran the creator of the Australian mathematics Competition, now the largest in the world, received the "José Vasconcelos" World Award of Education. His initiatives have enhanced the acceptance in educational circles of mathematical challenges and competitions in stimulating the learning of school mathematics.
Prof. Elliot Eisner
Place of Ceremony: 1992 
Professor of Educational and Art at Stanford University, Prof. Elliot Eisner was the recipient of the "José Vasconcelos" World Award of Education in particular for his contribution in the formulation of educational policy to better understand the potential of the arts in the educational development of the young. The Award Ceremony was celebrated at the Lester B. Pearson Building in Ottawa, Canada with the host of the National Research Council of Canada.
Prof. Lev Shevrin

The World Cultural Council granted the "José Vasconcelos" World Award of Education to Prof. Lev Shevrin in recognition of his more than 30 years of fruitful pedagogical and other educational work, particularly his literary work in the field of children’s mathematical education. The three remarkable books which Prof. Shevrin has co-authored. I. "Geometry for small children" II. "Mathematical ABC" III. "Mathematical 5-6 textbook Interlocutor", are widely popular not only in Russia but also in many other countries. Total edition has surpassed one million copies.
The Award Ceremony took place at the Polytechnic Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland.
Prof. Gilbert De Landsheere

The "José Vasconcelos" World Award of Education was delivered to Prof. Gilbert De Landsheere in recognition to his 40 year fight to upgrade teacher education for all levels of instruction. His continuous effort to develop European empirical education research in order to influence the whole art of teaching is also quite notable.
Dr. Dolores Hernández
Place of Ceremony: 21 Nov 1985 
The "José Vasconcelos" World Award of Education was granted to Dr. Dolores Hernández, a pioneer in science and mathematics education in the Philippines, for her more than 20 years dedication to the improvement of education in her country. As Director of the University of the Philippines Institute of Science and Mathematics Education Development she has played a significant role in the development of instructional materials and in the re-training of teachers for this purpose.
