Mady Andrien
Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liège
Mady Andrien’s career is intrinsically bound to the City of Liège. After studying drawing and sculpture at the Academy of Liège, she received the City of Liège’s Grand Prix de la Sculpture in 1961. Ms. Andrien started teaching ornamental sculpture at the Royal Fine Arts Academy in 1963 and statuary sculpture in 1966.
Several of her sculptures adorn the city of Liège, some commissioned and others competition winners: La Piscine in front of the Citadelle Hospital, les Principautaires in the Place Saint-Bathélemy, and Saute-mouton in the Place des Carmes.
Ms. Andrien observes people’s everyday lives. In particular, she draws her inspiration from how people act in large celebrations.
One need simply take a stroll in downtown Liège to discover or rediscover her work. |
