Professor Jean-Marie Baland

Jean-Marie Baland was born in Mons. After outstanding studies at the Notre-Dame de la Paix, he gained a grant for a doctorate from the National Fund for Scientific Research (FNRS), graduating in ‘Economic and Social Sciences’ in 1991. He then became Assistant and subsequently Associate Professor at the FUNDP’s Economics Department.
In addition to his many responsibilities at the FUNDP, Jean-Marie Baland is also guest Professor at several prestigious universities, including Michigan State University and the University of Harvard in the United States.
Jean-Marie Baland has earned numerous national and international prizes, amongst them that of the Royal Society of Political Economics and the Franqui Chair at the Catholic University of Louvain. He also received a Distinguished Fellow Award from the Institute for Quantitative Social Sciences at the University of Harvard.
