I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the University of Helsinki, to The Finnish Society of Sciences and Letters, to The National Archives of Finland, to our members and to all the people who have helped us to make possible the celebration of the World Cultural Council’s 20th Anniversary Activities, for your kind and warm reception in this country.

Books remind us of our history, they refresh our memory, regarding our achievements and mistakes; they show us the possibility of acquainting others with the unlimited capacities that we have to create, to dream and to achieve.

I feel very honoured to speak you about the Winners book, which has been all over the world, bearing on each page of its memories the seal of noteworthy men and women who have been working for the enhancement of a better world.

Today, on this significant occasion, we renew our commitment to recognizing and promoting the positive use of the knowledge of individuals or institutions whose sincere efforts mean a step forward for our present civilization.
